I look forward to meeting you and assisting you
on your life journey.
Just a brief introduction to myself. I have been a volunteer at the Verulam Hospice working with rural communities for four years. During this time the hands-on experience gained in various areas pertaining to psycho-social care, life coaching, logotherapy and socio-economic factors has been immeasurable. I mainly worked with HIV/AIDS infected-and/or-affected people as well as cancer patients. At first this seemed quite daunting due to the number of people under my care, and the number of audlt and children with physical and mental opportunistic diseases.
It soon became a reality and I did my very best to provide the best possible care for them. However, in this process of caring for others, I myself grew tremendously as a person. While working as a volunteer I was chosen for a specialist Masters Degree in Psychology, which I could not turn down. I also opened my own retail business.I recently spent almost 2 years working with children in China and Thailand. It was an incredible experience. I learnt much about the different family dynamics, how illnesses are treated using oriental medicine, how children are affected by cultural and religious beliefs, the role of the extended family, and much more
Concurrently I achieved
publication of my article in the Curationis Journal (Journal of the Democratic
Nursing Organization of South Africa:
The impact of caring for people living with HIV on the psychosocial well-being of palliative caregivers (2014 Oct 17;37(1):1-13. doi: 10.4102/curationis.v37i1.1201.v).
