As mentioned PLCL is a combination and adaptation of three types of disciplines, namely life coaching, positive psychology and logotherapy. While all these disciplines are effective on their own, a combination extracting the crucial elements from each will have a profound effect on the psyche.
Life coaching takes the form of powerful conversations between the coach and the client. Your life coach will question you in a way that is deep and thought provoking. In this way you will reveal how you view things, how you are inspired, and what issues might be blocking your progress. You'll begin to see and think through things in a clearer and more balanced way. Powerful questioning will help you and your coach build up the right plan of action and exercises to help you achieve your goals. The coaching process entails clarifying what you want. The next step is assessing your current position. Hence, coaching is about getting you from where you are to where you want to be. The next step is to review your resources and options. This is followed by creating a plan of action, which is followed by instilling commitment and motivation and keeping you on track. The final step is celebrating successes long the way.
The three main aims of coaching:
- Support and guidance: in this journey your coach is your biggest supporter. They guide questions about your life that you would not normally see.
- Giving meaning to what you say in a way that goes beyond your own thinking: By reflecting back a different kind of thinking your coach is able to help you develop new strategies, habits and ways to initiate and overcome change.
- Taking action: the most important step is guiding you to take action. The plan you develop with your coach will always be more productive than one you could come up with yourself because it's not based in your old habits.
Never let success get to your head and failure get to your heart – living a fulfilling life is all about balance.
